Blue-Ray Disc Players
Bluray technology is the newest to hit the stands. CDs and DVDs have now been superceded by this more powerful storage medium for music and movies. They may look a lot like a DVD or CD, but bluray discs have an ability to store a lot more. Capable of holding up to 50 GB of memory on one disc, this disc has become the new in-thing for all those techno buffs. Movies can be stored on it without compromising their quality too. Because bluray discs can hold large amounts of data, it can store it in high-definition formats, providing up to five times as much clarity as the standard formats supported by DVDs.
A Blue ray disc player is one that is capable of reading bluray discs. These disc players come with different optical heads, as reading bluray discs is not the same as when reading DVDs or CDs. As the laser used to read and write a bluray disc is of a different wavelength from the ones used to read DVDs and CDs, it is necessary to get a blue ray disc player for this. The blue ray disc player can be found available at many stores, online or otherwise.
Although a blue ray disc player is priced higher than standard DVD and CD players, this is offset by the fact that they are also capable of reading DVDs and CDs. A blue ray disc player need not be able to read only bluray discs. Blue ray disc players that can do this are known as being backward compatible. This means that the blue ray disc player can work well with older technologies – like CDs. If a blue ray disc player is not made so that it is compatible to the other formats as well, it would probably not sell as much in the current market, as bluray technology is just being introduced to the larger audience.
The blue ray disc player is currently being produced by several companies, large and small. Sony, LG and Philips are amongst the better known companies producing the blue ray disc player. As we saw with floppy disks, CDs and DVDs, the blue ray disc player will be likely to be used side by side with other types of storage mediums, replacing them over time. Don’t hurry and buy a blue ray disc player just yet if you feel you can’t afford it. Thanks to the speed of development in the electronics industry, prices will definitely reduce as the blue ray disc player becomes firmly established.
