The world of energy drinkables has a lot of variety. Sports energy drinks is one of those variations specifically aimed the sports professionals such as athletes. There are two main uses of sports energy drinks; rehydration or athletes and giving them an energy boost when expected.
Ordinarily the sports energy drinks are available in many flavors. The sports energy drinks can be found it two forms; pre-made liquids and powder.
There are three main types of sports energy drinks available in the market.
The first class is Isotonic. The ratios of water and the other nutrients of the liquid is similar to the human body. In addition to that, about 6%-8% of the sugar is included for energy. This class of sports energy drinks are preferred by the most athletes who are involved in team sports, mid and long distance runners, and cycling persons.
The next class is called Hypertonic and it contains higher ratio of water and lesser proportion of sugar than the human body. This class of sports energy drinks comprises high proportion of carbohydrate. When it comes to the use, this class of sports energy drinks are used for topping up the carbohydrate burnt during a sports event or an exercise. Most suited for long distance events where a lot of continues energy is required.
The third family of sports energy drinks, Hypotonic, comprises a lower percentage of water and lesser portion of sugar compared to the human body. Therefore, this family of sports energy drinks are used for topping up the liquids lost by sweating. Mostly the athletes who need fluid without additional energy, such as gymnasts and jockeys use this type of sports energy drinks.
The time between the consumption and the real absorption is one of the main concerns in this industry. The time it takes for this essentially depends on two elements; the level of carbohydrate and the level of electrolyte of the sports energy drinks. When the carbohydrate level of the sports energy drinks is high, the stomach is emptied in a slower rate. If the carbohydrate level is 6 to 8 percent in the sports energy drinks, then it is emptied from the stomach at the same rate as water. When the electrolyte level is higher in sports energy drinks, the absorption procedure if quite express as sodium and the potassium of the energy drink reduce the urination.
