The medical billing career prospect is booming currently, with insurance companies and governments researching and trying to bring under control the many kinds of frauds and illegal practices in the field. This is the career where licensed health care professionals claim for the services they have provided to a patient. Though the demand for medical billers is extremely high, a medical billing career requires extensive amounts of training to handle the various responsibilities and duties involved. Areas like anatomy, form completion, coding, and knowing the jargon is a must when wanting to pursue a career in this field. Familiarity with computers and a typing speed of at least 35 words per minute are also an added advantage. Being able to handle high stress situations and good social skills area also needed if you want to pursue the medical billing career. To be successful in this profession, individuals must also enroll in programs from an accredited college to study diagnostic and procedural terminology which relates to the accurate completion of medical insurance claims. These classes have a lot of practical and experimentative work.

Jobs in the medical billing career include those like medical collector, claims analyst and electronic claims processor. Individuals employed in medical billing jobs usually work in the back office, away from the public eye, in the claims processing office, or in the billing department of a medical office, clinic or hospital. Medical billing careers give those involved great opportunities to work with hospitals, healthcare facilities and consulting firms. A normal work week involves forty hours of working time, during weekdays. Medical billing at insurance companies does require a few late hour shifts. Overtime pay is genrally offered in this field. Wage scales are quite good and typically range between to / hour at entry-level and, can go up to - / hour for years of experience. Subsequent to gaining enough work experience, professional medical billers can move into consultancy or start their own medical billing business to service health care facilities.
