Telecommuting Policy
In most countries today telecommuting has become one of the hot topics in jobs related aspect. The risk of coming to work especially with the terrorist attacks occurring all over the world has given a helping hand to the spreading of telecommuting. Working away from the office will give the employees the required psychological freedom.
It is most important for an employee to be trustworthy to the company even while working at home. This is where the use of a telecommuting policy would come in handy to keep the employees within the company rules and regulations.
Both the employee and the employer can request on a telecommuting environment from the other party. If the employee requests which is most likely to happen than vice versa the employer should agree on it for it to be practiced. If the approval comes from the employer then an agreement is made and telecommuting could be practiced or the company can run it for a trial period prior to implementation.
In a telecommute policy a few must ingredients are there on which the information should be clear and sufficient. Firstly it should indicate the employees who are going to commit telecommuting. Another aspect to be included in the policy is the technology to be used. This information might not be necessary in a case where the additional technology will not be provided by the company.
Employees responsibility is another key aspect when transferring to a telecommuting environment. The type of work has to be considered. It should be thoroughly examined whether the nature of the work require the physical presence of the employee at the work place. The maturity of the employee and also the ability of his or her to change to a telecommuting environment should be measured by the management and the human resource. Since the employees will work without any supervision they will need to have the right attitude and the trustworthiness towards the company as a requirement to telecommute . Total yearly expected budget turnover after implementing telecommuting is a key value to measure whether the new method has worked towards a gain after the trial period. Benefits could be of financial or non financial.
It Is not always the case where the person will be working at home all the time, but instead they can be asked to come to the work place and report about their work within the working week. while working at home the responsibilities a company has towards its employees regarding the safety issues could be reduced and this should be included in the policy making.
With the consideration of all these key aspects the policy of telecommuting should be made to gain more profits to the company while increasing the work satisfaction of the employee.
